Emotion

Motion is pure physics. Emotion is purely human. E-Motion is an electric vehicle. Anyone who has emotions — and occasionally shows them — has more than just trace elements of humanity to offer.

Motion, at its most basic, means movement.
A part or a particle travels in a direction at a speed.
Full stop. But this motion, this movement, has more up its sleeve than is generally assumed.
So do arrows, for that matter.

When a system has complexes, that’s not a deficit at all.
Quite the opposite.
Complex systems have many interacting parts — crowds of people, for example — all in motion.
What that looks like was on full display last weekend at the NoKings demonstrations.

The other kind of motion lives inside quantum mechanics — that branch of physics that is probably understood by no one, or next to no one.
Me?
No idea.
All I know is that quanta move mechanically at microscopic levels.
There are particles to consider that couldn’t care less about the classical laws of motion.
Quantum particles move however they see fit. And that is then described as phenomenal.

Since we’ve already wandered into incomprehension, Einstein’s theory of relativity can’t be far behind.
When parts move at breakneck speed close to the velocity of light, Einstein managed to wrap those movements into a theory.
And in doing so — in a theory that has been partially confirmed — he recognized that the classical laws of motion were due for revision.

Well, have we learned something? No?

Emotions are movements.
Not necessarily physical ones, even though quite a few things do get set in motion when they arrive.
Who doesn’t know what emotions are?
Then again — get well soon.

Human beings come fully equipped with finely tuned emotions.
And that’s a very good thing.
When tears flow, it’s either deep grief or overflowing joy at work.
The tears themselves don’t seem to care which category it is — they flow anyway.

Emotions are also responsible for the fact that the word love is lived by most people but barely understood by any of them.
Who would want to picture a world entirely removed from the state of love?

How about empathy?
Oh là là — whole worlds open up when human instinct takes a genuine interest in how the person across from us is doing.

Yes, Homo Sapiens is an emotional creature.
Usually a decent one too, because the law of emotions seems to include the clause that people want to feel moved — and allow themselves to be. And can afford to be.

Eight million people in the United States took to the streets and public squares of the United Emotions of America, showing their feelings with passion and conviction.
And what did they achieve?
More feelings — in those who stayed home, in people across other countries.
And in all those who are not ashamed of feelings like justice, humanity, community, and solidarity.
Quite the contrary.

I am moved. And that is more than just a good thing.
